Bots High Free Worldwide Screening Day

Florida Film Festival - Official Selection
Geek Film Festival - Best Documentary

"It's just plain entertaining [is] what it is." Orlando Sentinel

"Bots High is funny, interesting...inspiring to see a film where smart kids are allowed to use their smartness for something exciting and explosive." The Daily City

On Thursday, October 6, you can watch the funny and inspiring documentary Bots High for free, a film that takes you inside the world of high school robot builders.

Find a screening near you or create your own! It doesn't have to be a in a traditional movie theater - any communal space with a screen, projector, and sound system can become an instant screening room. Hosting a screening is a great platform for schools or clubs to show off their creations, have guest speakers, recruit new members, or anything else to make the movie an event.

This free screening will only be happening Thursday, October 6. Times will vary based on the venue. After the film tune into the live webcast for a Q&A with the "cast" and crew where you can tweet your questions! Read more about the film here.

Create a Screening

Free = Free

In order to get a free screener DVD, your event must be free and open to the public (normally there's a $200 licensing fee). Check below if you want to host a fundraiser.

You can run the screening at any time (and have multiple screenings for the night), but it can only be played on October 6, 2011.

If you only do one thing, fill out this form!. It will guide you through everything you need to do and the information we need to make sure your screening is set up!

If you just want to join a screening but didn't see your city listed, get things started by listing your city and as the community grows the venue and logistics will fall into place. Group first, venue later.

What's a Venue?

  • Movie Theater
  • College and High School Auditoriums
  • Church/Synagogue/Mosque/etc.
  • Galleries
  • Rooftops
  • Libraries
  • Community Centers
  • Bookstores
  • Union Halls
  • Company Meeting Rooms
  • Co-working Space
  • Any public space with a projector, screen, and sound system
  1. Add Your City

Go to www.meetup.com/botshigh and create a community in your city (if there's enough demand cities can have multiple communities/screening venues). Just click on Start a new community and put in your city name or University - something descriptive on where the screening is geographically. Here's a short video on how to set it up on Meetup.

  2. Tell Your Friends

Start spreading the word! Check out the Press Kit for lots of images, posters, and videos that you can share online and use in blog posts. We'll also be adding posters you can easily customize with your venue's screening info.

  3. Find a Venue

In the meantime, find a venue. Look at the sidebar for some venue ideas. Some place that has internet and a computer connection to the projector would be best so you can tune in to the livestream Q&A.

  4. Make it Fun!

Make the night an event! Host a robot battle. Combat robots take a lot of work and safety precautions, but there's FIRST, VEX, BEST, FIRST LEGO League, Sumo Bots and more. Or do a Hack and Tell or just have people show off their cool creations or give cool talks (think Instructables or mini Maker Faire).

  5. Logistics

Fill out the venue host form. We'll send you the DVD for free. After the screening you can keep it for personal use.

  6. Upgrade

Consider upgrading to a Blu-ray screener or buying a DVD pack to resell to cover costs.

  7. Showtime!

    Have an awesome event!

Screening Extras

$20 Blu-ray Upgrade - Robots are cool, but they're even cooler in full 1080 HD.

$100 DVD Retail 10 Pack (Limit 3 per venue) - Cover the costs of running the event by selling DVDs. These DVDs will be retailing online for $20, so you can either match that price at the event or beat it. Either way, you keep all the profit!

Educational Fundraiser

Unlike most science and engineering events that are held at the end of the school year, we're screening Bots High at the beginning of the year to kick off the robotics season and get more kids involved!

If you're part of a robotics club, Boy Scout Troop, or other non-profit and want to sell tickets as a fundraiser, you can buy a fundraising license for $100 (normally $250). This gives you the right to sell tickets to your screening on October 6, and it doesn't have to be open to the public. Includes free upgrade to a Blu-ray screener!

Charged Admission

If you run a theater and really, really want to charge admission, contact us to talk about licensing.

Press / Bloggers

If you'd like to interview the director or people in the film, or would like an advance screener of the film to review and post before October 6, please fill out the Press Contact Form.

Sponsorship

We're looking for sponsorship to help cover the costs of making this awesome day happen. If you'd like to get your company in front of thousands of people, contact us!
